About COSMIC RIVERS...Visual artists Spelman Evans Downer and Laura Myntti are showing new artworks at the Kenai Peninsula’s Gallery Turquoise North, the creation of Spelman Evans Downer who designed and built the museum quality exhibition space at his Kenai River property in Cooper Landing. This year’s show, “Cosmic Rivers,” features a combination of Ms. Myntti’s cosmos inspired paintings and prints, and Mr. Downer’s aerial compositions, inspired by Alaska’s world-class rivers. Each summer Gallery Turquoise North presents contemporary painting, photography, sculpture, and multimedia projects by established Alaskan artists during a two-week art show that coincides with the second run of red salmon on the Upper Kenai.Read more...

Gallery Turquoise Northat Mile 49.5 Sterling Highway Cooper Landing Alaska
Now in its fourth season, Gallery Turquoise North is open to the public from July 21 to August 4, 2007.Granted, this is a short 2 week season, but it coincides with the second run of red salmon that come to the Upper Kenai River in Cooper Landing, Alaska. If you are unfamiliar with this run, Evans can give you tips and suggest places to fish based on his 25 years of fishing here and his 10 summers as a professional fishing guide. Not surprising, the gallery has many paintings about this river and its many forms of fishing. If you come by in person, look for the turquoise signs and mile marker 49.5 on the Sterling Highway. Gallery hours are Saturday & Sunday, Noon - 6 pm or by appointment, call 907-595-1434.
